Following a sell-out UK tour, Matthew Bourne’s brand-new 2012 production, Sleeping Beauty, is coming to cinemas for the first time. The story begins in 1890 at the christening of Princess Aurora, a time when fairies, vampires and decadent opulence fed the gothic imagination. As Aurora grows into a young woman, we move forward in time to the Edwardian era; a mythical golden age of long summer afternoons, croquet on the lawn and new dance crazes. Years later, awakening from her century long slumber, Aurora finds herself in the modern day, a world more mysterious and wonderful than any fairy story! A sumptuous, gothic fairy tale with a twist on the classic story, Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty will delight audiences of all ages and complement his international hit Swan Lake, shown in 3D as part of Festival PLUS at HKAF.
